and that was all the incentive needed for two of Team 6's Wainwright Wanderers to take to the motorway network to recce the ascent on to & descent off of their allocated routes. Although we wouldn't recommend travelling up on a Friday afternoon!! It proved to be a very worthwhile trip albeit short and sweet.
We wouldn't underestimate how valuable this trip was. We were happy enough with our routes once 'up the top' from a previous visit but you just can't get a feel for the terrain from a map, but now we know!!
Biggest benefit was putting our actual climb/descent times against our estimated times, which were conservative but not conservative enough... so revised plan going into Event Control soon.
